I keep trying to get my father-in-law to see that. (BTW, he's on Medicare, of course.) I said last week, "You say you love me. I believe you. But then you want to vote for the guy who wants to make it impossible for me ever to have health insurance again. And you know what that means."

But he just smiled sheepishly and said, oh, well, it doesn't matter because he's in a red state so he might as well vote Republican.

It's the weirdest thing. I say, "Your grandchildren have health insurance only because of Obamacare. Doesn't that matter?"
No, it doesn't. Voting Republican is more important to him.

It is hard not to take it personally!

I also have a genetic disease, like someone up thread. I inherited this disease from my Republican mother, so she's familiar with its effects. I've discussed the fact that I am uninsurable without Obamacare or a group plan with her, and he just dismisses this as inconsequential. She says she thinks I'll always have access to group insurance, and so it doesn't matter if insurance companies are allowed to discriminate against me. I've asked her what happens if I lose my job or become too disabled to work, and she says that that won't happen because I'm educated and smart. (I don't even try bringing up the other people who aren't as fortunate as me, because she doesn't care about them and dismisses them as lazy bums).

I just don't get it. She cares about me, and she works in healthcare.  Yet she doesn't see it as a problem my insurance benefits would be my only option for insurance under Romney's plans. And she doesn't see it as a problem that millions are in a worse situation than me.

It's bizarre. I hate the kind of person Fox News has made her into.
