    •  it's up to the President (4+ / 0-)

If he looks like a dishrag in the other debates that's going to be a problem. I remember him being plenty forceful in the debates with the Democratic candidates and with McCain.

That's the Obama we need to see the rest of the way. He can't Lamont this!

Yes, Romney's bounce will fade...IF! If the President acts like he wants to continue to lead.

      •  Its a hellish job, for sure. (1+ / 0-)

        •  I don't think he'll go left (6+ / 0-)

which is what I'd like to see, but as long as he is...well, "forceful" isn't the word...maybe it's not a single word. Maybe it's just overall being faithful to his values, expressing them strongly, being specific.

I didn't like that bit about his ideas and Romney's about Social Security probably being similar. He's got to explain what his ideas actually are. And if they're not Romney's he's got to point that out.

Romney will say anything. We know that. I want the President to say something! Not just "Social Security needs tweaking". What the heck does that mean? What kind of tweaking? And how can he say that and let it go? That's why he got into trouble in the 1st debate.

The next one is, I believe, a foreign policy debate so the President needs to show why his policies are better than Bush's and why Romney's would be the same or worse than Bush's. Any of this "I suspect Governor Romney's position on the Middle East is similar to mine" won't work at all.

Because, really, why vote for a man if his opponent's ideas are similar? We know they're not. The President should not say they are! Rather, the President has to get it across how they are different.
