    It turns up around the web, but I haven't found a "home" for it, like a university or museum collection.

    The strong contrast of the image strikes me as inauthentic - Civil War era photographs have usually faded a good deal.

    The pose is off.  Being photographed could be a once in a lifetime experience and one didn't waste it.  People of the day almost always faced the camera or posed like a Roman leader in 3/4s gazing into eternity.  Why study your canteen as though it were a fascinating object?

    I've wondered if it's this guy.  All I've got to go on is a cheekbone and the nose.  The flag and blouse are different from the vid and he's pretty much clean-shaven in the vid, but the pic above would suit his facial structure and his cause.
