The NYT was Atrocious in the runup to the war.

Regular, moderate bohemians, fairly mainstream Democrats, counted on the NYT to give us the straight poop.  Instead, they gave us the standard cheerleader crap, & they FOOLED US!

That is the worst SIN of all.  They fucking BETRAYED US!  They are as complicit in leading this country into an ILLEGAL WAR as the fucking BUSH FREAKS!

That the NYT did this is a Major Betrayal of the public trust.

Even if we didn't believe W's Holy Warriors, we counted on the NYT, Colin Powel, & Tony Blair to speak the truth.

      They blew it.

Now we have to wise up & seek the smaller market newspapers to do the down & dirty work of telling us the truth.

The NYT ed board is discreditied.

Let them try to find support in the Fundy Reich.

      •  you know I wasnt fooled for one second (none)
but nobody listens to me - I bitched (in 2001) about how the Iraq war is some academic's geopolitical wet dream (Perle, Feith, Wolfowitz and fellow travelers) sold to Bush and Cheney

their outcomes had merit (less reliance on Saudis, another friendly state to Israel, democracy flourishing, counterweight to Iran, etc) if they were grounded in reality

anyway I remember Kerry's vote for authorization and having some regrets at the time. I was and still am a JK fan - if anyone deserves the presidency it is him - the current POTUS doesnt deserve anything except scorn and the title: worst. president. ever.

so I guess saying I wasnt fooled is like throwing a pebble in a lake and expecting everyone to notice (somebody should come up with a better metaphor)

so back to the thread: I do remember some stories in the NYT that reflected some doubt on the rationales for war. If anyone abused the publics trust it is the BushCo admin
