  •  It is a chilly 34 degrees in our valley. (6+ / 0-)

I plan to drive to the top of our nearest really tall mountain here in the Blue Ridge later today.  Little over six thousand feet.  The dry adiabatic lapse rate is 3.75 degrees F, or 2 degrees C for every thousand feet up you go.  It should be about twenty degrees colder on the mountain top.  People around here learn very quickly to dress in layers if they go anywhere.

Colors are beginning to turn pretty quickly now.  This weekend should be coming close to peak colors.  Third week of October is almost always the best time to see the brilliant patchwork quilt look of the mountains.

Will you wait to take pictures until next week?

Six thousand feet should afford an awesome view.  Do bundle up, OS.

"Enjoy your day", she said enviously.
