I'm doubtful the divergence is real.  There aren't that many national polls, some of them are dubious pollsters as a rule, and they're not very sophisticated.  I think some of them are just bad pollsters, and others might be picking up some response bias.

No way to prove my thinking, unless the divergence proves real on election day, but I agree with Paleo the national and battleground polls will converge into a small Obama lead, same as pre-convention.

I expect tonight's VP debate and the final Presidential debates to be fought to a draw every time.  I think Biden will be sufficiently aggressive tonight, and Obama will bring his game face and be sufficiently aggressive the final two debates.  They're competitors, they don't need more than one wake-up call to jump out of bed.

I think nothing else will really move numbers.  The economic numbers obviously are moving in our direction again, and while it might be too late to help, it ensures nothing hurts.

No one cares about Benghazi.  The GOP will hammer on that because they can, but it's not important to voters.  But Obama will have to have a good answer in the final debate on what happened and why, and voters could judge him harshly as a President if he answers poorly...so in that sense I suppose Benghazi could matter, not for Benghazi itself but for how voters perceive Obama in the debate in handling it.
