  •  I don't disagree; I'm merely pointing out (0+ / 0-)

that this charade is all we have left as American voters.

Playing defense for an hour or two in front of a camera is hardly the model used in classical times.  Effective debate is a tool best used with informed peers.  It involves continuous opportunity to advocate for one's positions.  That's hardly what happens in these debates.  Here it's just all showmanship.

Good debating is a lost art, but it's not because we don't have any actors in politics.

    •  I don't consider it a charade (0+ / 0-)

All of this is data, including the debater's affect and responsiveness in the presence of other people.

Is affect the basis on which arguably the most powerful political leader on the planet should be chosen? I don't believe so.

Unfortunately, our current laws allow the decision to be made by any adult citizen, regardless of education or intelligence, acting on the most arbitrary, ridiculous, vacuous, irresponsible, and/or corrupt impulses, for better or worse.

We're yet young, I know, but so far we're still standing. Conspicuously absent are the forms of government under which those classical debates were held.

      !! Four more years !!
