they have mostly congregated in the Republican (rex publius) party because, at heart, they are royalists, people in search of a leader that looks the part.
Their behaviors are mostly determined by imitation and habit, which makes them relatively easy to control. However, as we all know, fans are fickle, so they have be constantly entrained and entertained.  Terror works and it's cheap.  So, the terrorists in Lybia are a god-send.

That said, it seems that perhaps the instinct-driven are the way they are because there's some missing link between their brain stem, where the emotions lie, and the cognitive brain which keeps them, for example, from tamping down their fears.  So, fear runs rampant, even when there's no observable threat. Indeed, the fear seems ever-present and is manifest as a fixation with death, especially imagined death, as might have occurred in utero but obviously didn't.  Yet, this imagined death may well account for the terror response to the idea of abortion.  If the instinct-driven exist in the present tense, then a retroactive fear of being aborted (if their maternal parent had had a choice) may well be what's animating them now. Grover Norquist talks about drowning government in a bath-tub. The drowning imagery is obviously potent. A sensation like drowning is what a fetus in distress experiences.  So, for all we know, most of these instinct-driven people are the result of "difficult births," of having just escaped from being terminated before or during birth. And somewhere deep in their brain stem that's left a mark.

Can we argue with that? No, they are irrational. That's why what they do makes no sense.

We organize governments to provide benefits and prevent abuse.
