    I disagree with Chauncey only to this degree:

    I think the current presidential contest can quite easily be compared to the build up to the fight between Larry Holmes and Gerry Cooney in...what was it...'82?

    Romney, for a significant segment of the American populace, is The Great White Hope.

    I'm surprised it is as significant as it's turned out to be, but I shouldn't have been.

    To paraphrase Mark Twain:  "The reports of a post-racial America have been greatly exagerated."
