Yes, but are you a moderate-left-of-center reformist, or a moderate-left-of-center populist?

    Really? Me too.

Are you a moderate-left-of-center-reformist great lakes region or moderate-left-of-center-reformist eastern region?

    Really? Me too...

liberal in this country is considered mainstream in Europe. Most Americans have absolutely no idea what a true liberal is, let alone what a "radical" left-winger looks like. We have some genuine liberals in this country, but we don't have too many "radicals", and the ones we do have don't possess any political power or influence.

The Red Army Faction or Red Army Fraction, in its early stages commonly known as Baader-Meinhof Group (or Baader-Meinhof Gang), was one of post–World War II Germany's most prominent left-wing militant groups.

The RAF was founded in 1970 by Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin, Horst Mahler, and Ulrike Meinhof. The RAF described itself as a communist and anti-imperialist "urban guerrilla" group engaged in armed resistance against what they deemed to be a fascist state. As such, members of the RAF generally used the Marxist-Leninist term "Faction" when they wrote in English.

The Red Army Faction existed from 1970 to 1998, committing numerous operations, especially in late 1977, which led to a national crisis that became known as "German Autumn". It was held responsible for thirty-four deaths, including many secondary targets, such as chauffeurs and bodyguards, and many injuries in its almost thirty years of activity. Although better-known, the RAF conducted fewer attacks than the Revolutionary Cells (German: Revolutionäre Zellen, RZ), which is held responsible for 296 bomb attacks, arson and other attacks between 1973 and 1995.

That sort of movement doesn't exist in this country, and if it did, I highly doubt most of the people whom Faux News brands as "radical" would be members.

I agree with you completely. As someone who has always considered himself fiscally conservative and socially liberal, I have watched the country go rightwards to the point where the average person has no idea what a socialist or communist actually is.

Most couldn't say they've ever met one, and very few even know that there's one notional 'socialist' in congress, much less name him.

        •  well I'm not a conservative, fiscally or socially (5+ / 0-)

any longer. Our "conservatives" in this country  would prefer to destroy any vestige of the past. So just call me Marxist. We'll save the artifacts of the workers. Fuck the rest.

As a Southerner,I say, hell yeah, save those Antebellum Mansions. Real humans made those fucking bricks, by hand. Some of the few humans in that place and time who deserve to be memorialized.

I don't have too much of a problem with actual conservatism; it certainly has its place.

But we don't have a conservative party in this country, we have authoritarians and right-wing reactionaries, which are much worse than useless.

            •  Exactly. There was nothing conservative... (1+ / 0-)

about Cheney or Bush - corrupt, authoritarian, and greedy, yes, but not truly "conservative."
