Things could get very ugly in this country and around the world.

I've recently moved from San Francisco and had the occasion to see a number of small town centers in the Long Island area.  It's depressing to see the vacancies and going out of business sales.

If the government doesn't start spending money on needed infrastructure improvements we are toast.

I am still in the Bay Area (though I might be relocating for economic reasons).

The book  strips your illusions away, regarding the people in high places having anyone's interest but their own at heart.

If there's any hope, basically, I see it as coming from a radical re-configuration of the ruling class. It's up to the little nobodies have to bring the wealthiest interests in society to heel. The rise of the internet, the rise of popular movements like Occupy and the re-invigoration of organized labor we're observing, are steps in the right direction. Election reform, including fair elections and the limitation of the role of big money in the electoral process, is also a step in the right direction.

      It won't be easy.

Likely, in some sense at least, we'll see it get worse before it gets better.
