  •  l had the best costumes as a kid (0+ / 0-)

My mom was a real pro at sewing, and my costumes were so well made, my own kids wore them too!

My girls are fresh out of their teen years, so I understand you're consternation with teen trick-o-treaters.  I started telling my girls when they were 12 that they were too old to keep going out every year, but they always went.  Always in full costume, and not just a slutty one.  You can't imagine how difficult it is to find costumes for women and girls that aren't decidedly slutty looking.  It's "sexy nurse" this and "sexy witch" that.  Hardly anyone knows how to sew anymore, so doing your own costume isn't something these girls are accustomed to anymore.

Anyway, I have come to the conclusion that teens who go trick-or-treating today are trying to hold on to the last vestiges of childhood that today blows by them so much faster than it did for us.  It's why you see grown up boys and girls holding on to the cartoon characters from their grammar school years, and why they seem to be in less of a hurry to grow up than we were.  Oh, they still think they know it all (some things don't change), but they're not interested in being actually responsible for it all yet.
