Crazy as it is, I live in TX.  Only due to husband's job.  When I get my oil changed or an inspection on my car, the TV in the waiting room is always on FOX.  I hate it.  And CNN has sunk.  I don't watch them anymore and I used to.

for a number of years now and have decided

      1. you are a customer and can ask to have it changed

      2. you can change it without asking in a stealthy manner

      •  Get one of those little devices (2+ / 0-)

that just sends, in rapid succession, every known OFF code for every known TV. I think they cost less than $15.

That's all they do, turn the TV off. That's all they need to do.

You and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children's children what it was once like in America when 25% of the population was batshit insane.

      •  I do this all the time. (3+ / 0-)

I smile very politely and ask to change to the Food Network.

Funny thing about Food Network. It's pretty innocuous. People get drawn into the shows, and customers start chatting with each other about the content:"oh! That looks good! Now I'm hungry." "Ugh! Snails! Can you imagine eating those those?" "That dinner looks amazing. I should try cooking it tonight."

Poltical news often creates dissention,  even if the business doesn't realize it.

I hadn't been to my old car dealership in about 6 months. Las time I was there, the channel was still on Food Network, where I had put it. The receptionist said customers love it, especially the ones  that  don't have cable. And men dig t. They sit down, roll their eyes a bit, then are totally engrossed learning  how to make Rachel Ray's husband's favorite carbonara sauce.

The opposite of divisive tv like Fox isn't MSNBC. It's tv that brings people together.
