  •  It's utterly amazing how much the Republican party (17+ / 0-)

is willing to suppress lie, cheat and steal votes to win the elections in November.

As a disabled veteran who served honorably around the world, including in Vietnam, I cannot tell you how repulsed I am by Mitt Romney, his bid for the presidency (he and Mrs. Romney seem to think it is their turn), and the chickenhawks on his team (Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove = sickening, pathetic old SOB's, all of them).

And there is so much more in their despicable bag of tricks, including banning abortions because the US bishops and the right wing evangelical/fundamentalists think they should dictate their unbelievable  right wing religion to guide American public policy under our constitution and laws.  Are these people sane? I was raised & educated Catholic.  I learned about the kind, gentle loving Jesus who taught the one law - LOVE.  I learned about the Beatitudes.  I was taught a social gospel (left the church when I went into the military).

And why is there no single-payer/universal health care in one major world power, and only in one - the US?

And now, Romney & Ryan are blatant in their schemes to take away Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare.  These are truly dangerous people who are apparently convincing much of the country to vote Republican - no matter that their plans/policies and programs are the most radical/dangerous propowde sed in my life. They want toeliminate so many programs, policies and offices designed and set  up to protect the people of the United States.

It is all so astonishing.  The president must feel like he is trapped in a monstrous nightmare - having to deal with Romney/Ryan  and the 2012 Republican party.

It has been a wild and disturbing ride for the last couple of years.  Our government is dysfunctional and heading toward a cliff of some kind.  I have a very bad feeling about this one.

    •  You Might Want To Check Your Voter Registration (10+ / 0-)

Because that is something they are systematically trying to take away as well... and they haven't even been elected.

      •  That is a good idea. (7+ / 0-)

I was registering voters the other day and spoke to someone who had received an absentee ballot without having requested it. I still wonder what that was all about but I suspect he may have trouble trying to vote in person.

Others have simply gotten old. I prefer to think I've been tempered by time.

My son registered at the local community college, and he was forced to fill out the absentee ballot request

He was told it was mandatory for anyone registering as a Dem here in Florida

If he goes to vote in person, I strongly recommend that he take along his absentee ballot, to prove that he isn't trying to vote twice.

He also might want to contact his local Democratic party to tell them about this.  They may have some advice or help for him, or could get him together with others that got the same BS so that they could complain more effectively.

I have voted by absentee ballot here in FL for many, many years.  That option is available to all.  This year, because of Rick Scott and the monstrous purges, etc.  I decided to call my local Supervisor of Elections to confirm when I would get my absentee ballot.  I was told, "It's a good thing you called you would not have received one this year automatically - as in years past."  She said they were "updating all the voters."  She put in my request for an absentee ballot.

When I received the absentee ballot, I used a letter opener to open it.  It has several pages of heavier stock paper (the right wing nutcases have managed to put the three FL Supreme Court Justices on the ballot because the right is angry that they are "too liberal," and that they are ruling against charter/religious schools getting public funding.  So those three justices (the most respected and least partisan of all, are on the ballot - YES or NO!)  So the inner protective sleeve was torn (placed differently in the larger envelope from what I had ever seen before - when I received the ballot - of course invalidating the ballot)).  If I had attempted to seal it with tape and submitted it, my vote would have been invalid (I vote straight Democratic as I am a far left Democrat and have been all of my life.

It is all straightened out now - I can only hope.  I have a new absentee ballot in my hand right now.  Voting Obama/Biden, Senator Bill Nelson (D) and against the const amendments put on the ballot by the right wing (one says it is unlawful to stop public monies from going to charter/religious schools and home schoolers), and voting to retain the three excellent justices.  By the way, I voted in every election since I was eligible to vote - and I am over sixty.

It's confusing sometimes trying to figure out what they do and do not find unacceptable.  Akin's OK.  Walsh is OK.  Some wag tweeted that there's Paul Ryan supporters who think abortion shouldn't be allowed except when their woman on the side turns up pregnant.
