    Melville meets Carpenter

The perfect blend of adventure and horror.

Its remarkable in its simplicity.  It has a giant, man-eating monster like something out of a Ray Harryhausen film....that stalks in complete silence & stealth like Michael Myers.

And oh yes, the monster is something that actually exists in the real world.

Spielberg and John Williams capture all the mystery and romance of the ocean.  At once a place of adventure and opportunity...but also hiding dark, unimaginable horrors.  All three men are forced to deal with both sides of the ocean's coin.  Brody, terrified of the ocean, volunteers to go to the heart of shark country to protect his family & community.  Quint, a swashbuckler who'd be right at home in a Robert Louis Stevenson story, relives the nightmare of the USS Indianapolis.    Hooper, who 'loves sharks' and has dedicated himself to studying the dark depths...steps up and becomes a ballsier fisherman than perhaps even Quint.

    Its a 50s monster movie, a 70s slasher, and a 40s adventure serial.

Simply a classic. Oft-imitated, never rivaled.
