  •  No. Obama shouldn't endorse or applaud a (3+ / 0-)

"compassionate" Romney, because Romney isn't compassionate.  It would be a fake.

What I think most people are looking for is some passion, and some truth.  Romney needs to be called on his lies, and misrepresentations of both his and Obama's policies.

This can easily be done without actually calling him a liar.  The American people deserve the truth about policies.  We can take it.  We can add 2+2.  If Romney and his "wonky" sidekick can convince their base that a 20% across the board tax cut for everyone can be paid for without taking vital programs away from the 99%, then surely we can point out the obvious.  It can't be done.

I would love to see Obama make a joke about which Romney shows up at the debate.  He has more personas than drops of water in the ocean.

Romney.  One of the Presidents biggest blunders in debate 1 was when he said Romney and he agreed on Social Security.  Don't say Romney's a nice guy, and don't agree with him on any policy issues.

    •  of course he should. but add that that compassion (1+ / 0-)

needs to extend to all americans, not just a 20% tax cut for the extremely wealthy.

    •  I think at the beginning of the debate, Obama (4+ / 0-)

should start after Romney's first response with the now famous Maya Angelou quote, "when someone shows you who they are, believe them", and then dismantle every display of phony compassion with a particular instance where Romney said the exact opposite.

    •  Obama can observe that Romney (3+ / 0-)

is "selling" compassion as a way to high office, but his deeds don't match his current pitch.

Again, Romney's refusal to expose his financial records is his glaring weakness if Obama can frame this refusal as a reason to distrust Romney. Obama can use Reagan's "trust, but verify" meme over and over. It's an old meme that has historical credibility, and it won't go unnoticed by old Reaganites.

    •  What tax cut? (1+ / 0-)

Rmoney is promising a 20% tax cut that is paid for by closing "loop holes." A revenue neutral "tax cut" isn't a tax cut at all -- it's a redistribution of wealth. I'm better he won't move the money downward.

A conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned how to walk forward. Franklin D. Roosevelt
