  •  I am so sick of the No Enthusiasm BS (18+ / 0-)

Where did that $180 million that Obama hauled in in Sept. come from?  4 years ago he hauled in less and all you heard about was the enthusiasm.  How about the big crowds Obama still attracts.  Who are all these unenthusiastic supporters that have money to throw away on someone they don't care about?  Where are all the small donors to Romney that make up his "enthusiastic" base?  Romney had an event in Ohio yesterday that got a lot of airplay that attracted around 3000 and was described as "smallish" by Halperin.  Is there anyone out there willing to make this argument with the media?

What's the difference between Palin and Cheney? Answer: lipstick!

    •  Four Million! (9+ / 0-)

Four million people donated at least some money to the campaign. That's incredible. An extra million above the three million people of '08.

I think the media and the polls (LV models) are underestimating the enthusiasm of Obama supporters and the Obama campaign's turnout machine.

The media is just comparing it to the energy of four years ago ... obviously a reelection campaign isn't the same, there's not the same historical significance ... and we aren't getting rid of Bush this time. .. but that doesn't mean we're not very enthusiastic about reelecting our President. It's just a superficial story.... right up the media's alley.

I think this year a lot of us Obama supporters are taking a more "businessman/woman" like approach to this election. 2008 was very exciting because of the factors you listed. This year, I'm not cheerleading so much because it's just not as exciting reeelecting someone as it is electing them. Either way, my dropoff in "enthusiasm" doesn't mean I'm less likely to vote, but I wonder if the way I feel is similar to other Obama supporters and the media/pollsters are having a hard time quantifying it.
