    and would have been pro universal suffrage and pro civil rights.

    Reread Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address, as well as his letters to Douglas. As the Civil War went on and as he developed friendships with blacks (such as Frederick Douglas) his views on race and the sins of slavery changed. He became much more "radical" than when he first entered office.

    There is no way that he would be as much of a moderate as Johnson was.
