  •  Clear Channel made me politically active (21+ / 0-)

In 2003, Howard Stern's show aired in Miami on Clear Channel's hard rock FM station.  At the time, I was a file clerk at a law firm and would listen to Howard in the morning as I made labels and organized documents into folders.

I especially liked Howard's political views.  He was very angry at Bush b/c of the war in Iraq.  Howard railed against the fact that we weren't pursuing OBL in Afghanistan.  During this period, Howard spent a lot more time sounding like Rachel Maddow and a lot less time talking about sex.

After one particularly anti-Bush week, I tuned in on Friday morning to find that the show was not on the air.  Turns out Clear Channel had pulled Howard's show all across the country, claiming it was because of the sex talk etc., as if the company suddenly found out that Howard, who had been doing his show for several decades, was a bit offensive at times.

The more I found out about Clear Channel's ties to the republican party, the more pissed I got. There I was, minding my own business, and making the best of a boring job and Clear Channel saw fit to take something I enjoyed away, b/c they loved Bush so much.

It was in the aftermath of this event that I discovered liberal blogs, and Daily Kos! The rest is history.

P.S.  The Clear Channel hard rock station went out of business within a year.

It's not easy being a Floridian: PS I'm a lawYER now; no longer a lawSTUDENT.
