    How can they not see the ridicule that they will rightfully suffer when they say things like this? How can he possibly believe that any thinking person would accept his lame explanation?

    We really do need to make psych evaluations part of the process in running for Congress...

      Great movie about racial prejudices, and a word was used in that movie that describes the Joe Wilsons' of the old/new/never-changing South......'peckerwad'.  He's nothing but a peckerwad that somebody bought a suit for.

        Have read the book and seen the movie several times each.

        I have no doubt that there are folks - not only in the South - who are still stuck in that mindset, but it is a mystery to me how people with those prejudices wind up in Congress this far down the road.

        Even more of a mystery is the focus of my original query - how can these guys be so utterly clueless to think that no on will call them on their hypocrisy and that they can somehow justify it and not get ridiculed?

        Can they really be that stupid?
