They are repeatedly polling the same group of people.

Over time that has got to be affecting the results.

Everything from what they read and how much attention they pay to the election to what issues they think about based on what polling questions get asked to them.

I would expect the RAND results to diverge from the national average more and more over time.

and it will look more and more like RV polls.

This could be a good or bad thing, as it could get an early jump on how late deciders will break. Or it could overstate turnout from Obama-favorable demographics.

We'll find out soon enough, I suppose.

    •  Why? There is no logic to what you say. (1+ / 0-)

The only problem with Rand would be if Rand picked a bad sample from the very beginning of the poll......but that doesn't look to be the case because the Rand polling chart reads very much like other tracking polls up until now. Only in the last couple of weeks do they look to be diverging.

The important consideration..........why are you willing to throw out the positive Obama poll and keep the negative one?

The act of observing changes the phenomenon you are observing.

By keeping going back to the same people and asking them questions about the race you change how much attention they pay to the election and what they think about (obviously they start thinking about the issues you ask them about).

It is hard to believe that will not have an effect on their opinions.

    •  Those people must be more informed than others (0+ / 0-)

Since they know they'll be polled repeatedly, I suspect they take more time to get informed on the issues. That makes them more inclined to choose President Obama.
