    paid per course, no benefits (ordinarily); any fill time faculty has benefits and a salary that is more than 5 times a per course amount or piece-work amount (may teach 4, 5, more courses per year, advise students, whatever). Universities have various systems of non tenured [full time] faculty - some are tenure track, some not.
    re: the MA. faculty are required to have a degree one level above the level they are teaching; someone with an MA, teaching college, for example. In many fields the masters is or may be the terminal degree (the arts for example)
