  •  Green tea polyphenols (5+ / 0-)

There is some research that suggests certain plant compounds in green tea activate genes involved in regulation of metabolism.  The field of Nutrigenomics combines gene mapping with nutrient intake.  It's been around for a while but, like all science that challenges establishment and industry, it lacks proper funding at attention in media.  The gist of it is, genes alone are not self-automated, they require the nutrient environment of the cell in order to transcribe protein codes and translate proteins that make up insulin, adrenaline, digestive enzymes, antibodies, neurotransmitters, all molecules involved in major biochemical reactions related to metabolic function.  It's the nutrients that we eat that direct genes.  It's kind of empowering to know that we can sort of guide day-to-day genetic activities by what we eat.  Food is medicine.
