    that Bush inherited a pretty strong economy when he won in 1988. So even if the economy was on an upturn in 1992, many probably felt things were worse than they were when Bush was elected.

    For example, unemployment in Nov 1992(7.4%) was 2.0% higher than in Jan 1989.

    Obama, on the other hand, inherited an economy in freefall after 8 years of a GOP administration, and four years later, could lose, but still hand back a stronger economy to a GOP president.
