  •  People absolutely shouldn't "freak out" and being (7+ / 0-)

    behind sucks.

However, for everyone's "lets work 50 times harder" work ethic, the fact is, only the President can win this election.

I think everyone has done almost all that has been asked. This site has knocked Mitt Romney all year long with daily, constant attacks. The volunteers have worked their asses off. The donors large and small have ponied up big. The campaign staff has been superb given a tough hand.

The only person who hasn't kicked ass is Obama.

    It's his time to deliver.

    •  President Obama has done his part (8+ / 0-)

He's been a very competent president. That's what this election is about.

If he spells it out tonite - clearly - and people tune him out, then there isn't anything more he can do.

Millions of people are going to vote for Romney, knowing full well he is a lying piece of crap.

      •  Well, considering, (0+ / 0-)

all he really had to do was give a kick ass convention speech and stand up for himself and his policies in a debate, he's 0 for 2.

I don't doubt the ability of President Obama to find his footing and come through. But it didn't have to be a nail biter like this. Everyone has done their part...but him.

        •  yeah. everyone has done their part. (3+ / 0-)

        •  When did this crappy convention speech meme popup? (3+ / 0-)

Seriously, his speech was fine... Great even. He got a decent sized bounce out of his convention.. it worked. Was Clinton's better? Probably, but who cares... Obama did his job at the convention. No one was complaining about a crappy speech until right after the debate.

And the debate WAS the problem... That's it. The convention was fine.. Obama was leading somewhere between 4-6 points going into the debate and is now somewhere in the realm of +-1 point to Romney.

      •  Please God no! (5+ / 0-)

1988 was supposed to be about "competence."

And we see what happened to the competent Mr. Dukakis.

        People need more than that.

Making an election about competence is a recipe for defeat.

        •  Ugh... Either Bush. (2+ / 0-)

Particularly Bush Jr. What Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole did we fall into to have him at the helm for two terms? Yes, Kerry was even the more "competent" one and... you know what, I'm just still mortified by that election.

and not have to push a real story about the middle class & the economy, I don't know what to say.

that is insanity in the Einstein definition.

what makes me nervous is fears that Obama's team thought exactly that prior to the first debate.

            •  President Obama came into a freakin' disaster (1+ / 0-)

And it's important that people know he stayed the course for the middle class.  He helped stabilize the economy. He got us health care under very trying conditions. He helped in a lot of ways.

              That's what competence brings you.

Why are people so afraid of that word? It's why he got elected for Gsakes.

These people don't know. And the one woman did say "Fox news said..." so there you go.

He has kicked ass on the campaign trail. His rallies have been amazing. He just wasn't spectacular at the convention and he certaily was subpar at the first debate. If he can put a good performance tonight, it may seal the deal.
