  •  Very good analysis (4+ / 0-)

Large registration increases in the DC suburbs are generally bad omens for the Republicans, as most of the growth in those areas is from transplanted northerners and minorities, who tend to vote for Democrats.

The largest percentage increases are also in Dem-leaning independent cities (a VA political anomaly), also often a bad sign for Republicans, especially in the localities with large universities (Williamsburg City, Harrisonburg City, Fredericksburg City, Montgomery County).

I also recommend watching the Richmond suburbs (Henrico County and Chesterfield County), as there areas have been trending Democratic quickly (Henrico crossed the party threshold in 2008, and Chesterfield, though inching up slower, is getting there).  And also watch the Hampton Roads suburban areas (Chesapeake City and Virginia Beach City); if those areas are 50/50, then Romney's in trouble.

closely on election night.  If Romney has a path to victory, he has to crush it there.

Still waiting for Romney to release his source code!
