For Let the People in: The Life and Times of Ann Richards. I can only read it in about 2-page snippets, it makes me miss her too much. The cover is gorgeous, and the quote from Bill..... it that doesn't get you at least a little misty-eyed, you should check your pulse.

Reading The Casual Vacancy. I don't normally read general fiction, but I thought I'd give this one a chance. Slice of life (and death) in a small English village. You're inside the head of several different people as the death of a member of the town council effects them all. I read one review that says it is a call to grassroots political action in the form of a novel. So despite the lack of spaceships or time travel, I'm giving it a chance. About 1/3 of the way in, it is ok (which is high praise from me for a general fiction work). The politics is interesting.

Also reading Ghost Brigades, with the next book ready for me at the library. Fun. Glad I jumped aboard the Scalzi bandwagon. Couple hundred years in the future, there are genetically altered soldiers, some more so than others. The series follows different people through interesting periods of their lives. Don't become too attached to anyone, he does kill people off - they are soldiers who fight aliens, after all.
