    that he paid the women on his staff the same as the men on his staff. It's not like that would have been a difficult thing to insert into that red herring of an answer, had it been true.

      he probably wouldn't have known all the details of everyone's salary, so it's an excellent way to poke holes in his story

        He could have said "and I paid those women the same as the men" even if he had no idea. Or he could have said "I would think we paid them the same as the men but I'd have to look into that." At least that would have made that whole tirade a bit more appropriate to the question. That he didn't think to do that says something about how important he views equal pay.
