that Mitt and Ann were "arranged" as a good Mormon coupling, though I seem to recall they'd dated in high school. In Mormon enclaves it's pretty standard to mate by arrangement.

Could be that they're simply not emotionally demonstrative people, and pretense would not be believable so they don't bother - note how quick and perfunctory Mitt's son-hugs are. My parents were quite cordial to each other, but I never recall seeing them spontaneously kiss or hug in a way that communicated deep affection/love. Though they did have that, at least enough of it over their 20 years together to have produced 6 children together.

The kind of spontaneous (and obvious) love and affection the Obamas have with each other after 20 years is actually kind of unusual. Hell, it's pretty unusual these days to even still be married after 20 years, much less still 'in love'.

We always hugged like that. Several years ago, we were at a theater restaurant that had a small dance band.  I grabbed my wife and we were dancing really close.  One of the band members asked if this was a special occasion.  My son in law said, "Naw, they are just in love."

marked our 42nd last month. We're still 'in love', but he is more demonstrative than I am. Different upbringing, I'm sure - I chose him on purpose because his family was nothing like mine on that scale, his parents lived one of the great love stories of their generation.

Just saying that public displays of affection aren't required and don't necessarily tell you anything about the depth of someone's marital relationship. That said, I very much like having lovers in the White House. Last time that much romance seemed present on the national scene, I was but a romantically-minded young teen enamored of Camelot.

Hold her close still and forever in your heart and mind, Otteray. Yours is another of the great love stories, you know...
