  •  Are Mormons supposed to talk about fighting? (1+ / 0-)

Aren't the Mormon Schools called the "Friend's Schools?" Didn't they also invent the "town hall" format for solving community problems?

Don't remember the part about bare knuckle boxing to select community leaders, but maybe I'm confusing religions.

    "Jersey_Boy" was taken.

      the town hall format.

I don't really get the mormon religion neither why people join it.

    •  Friends are Quakers (2+ / 0-)

They're much older than mormons and started in England int he 1600s and quite the opposite of mormonism, they believe it is possible to have direct experience of God without the intervention of a clergy or hierarchical priesthood.

the townhall concept began in colonial new england as early as the 1600s, thomas jefferson called it "wisest invention ever devised by the wit of man for the perfect exercise of self-government."

henry david thoreau said this about town hall meetings:
"When, in some obscure country town, the farmers come together to a town-meeting, to express their opinion on some subject which is vexing the land, that, I think, is the true Congress, and the most respectable one that is ever assembled in the United States"

“And, for an instant, she stared directly into those soft blue eyes and knew, with an instinctive mammalian certainty, that the exceedingly rich were no longer even remotely human.” ― William Gibson, Count Zero (-9.75 / -9.05)

    •  Mormons go to public schools. Yet strangely (1+ / 0-)

Utah's public schools have the least money per capita of any schools in the country.

Corporations are driven by the bottom line, not by concerns for health, safety or the environment. This is why we need government regulations.
