How often have you heard "Our club couldn't afford this player, so he went to free agency and abandoned our family--HE'S the greedy one"--from a FAN?

I have been answering them by saying "Since when can a billionaire baseball club owner NOT afford just about anything he wants? Since when are YOU concerned about what a billionaire can or cannot afford? When was the last time you saw the billionaire ballclub owner's actual books? Never? Why do you accept his explanation blind? Didn't that famous, talented and future Hall of Famer actually create a lot of wealth by selling tickets, TV and radio spots, jerseys and T-shirts, and millions in concessions at the stadium? Why do you side with a billionaire, who USED this man to make hundreds of millions one year, practically making him a SAINT, a pillar in our community one year, featured lovingly in every single advertisement for the team, and a discarded, useless, persona non grata the very next season?

Like you, sometimes it works. But baseball fans are very American--very, very easily susceptible to billionaires' propaganda and very loathe to change their tribal mindsets. The player 'left' them; they were abandoned; and the billionaire continues to loot their pockets.

BTW--I speak of Albert Pujols, whose adoring fans now refer to him as "Albert Who?"...

    "I feel a lot safer already."--Emil Sitka
