  •  Why is it an issue at all? My parents believe (4+ / 0-)

it is supremely important to find out what Obama was hiding by waiting for an investigation, but I just don't see what the issue is.

lies or a cover up.  They see the possibility of scoring a point for their agenda and they're willing to manufacture a fictional version of events to do so.

out of events that weren't scandalous at all.

(Anyone remember the Clinton-era White House Travel Office "scandal"? Even Kenneth Starr couldn't find or invent anything to pin on the Clintons in that one.)

        •  How about Whitewater? (0+ / 0-)

But that's all whitewater under the bridge.  I'd rather think about the future and the most effective way to deal with this conservative rightwing.  They need to be reined in.

          •  Whitewater actually had some smell to it (0+ / 0-)

There's a reason I didn't say "Whitewater" :-|  Not that the Clintons were guilty of anything there. But, on the other hand, if a Republican president had been involved in similar deals, I would have been suspicious, and would have wanted an investigation.

The Travel Office scandal was another thing entirely. I feel pretty sure that if it had happened under a Republican administration, my response would have been something more like, "So?"

But the nit-picking over whether Obama said the word "terrorist" or "terrorism" reminds me even more of several other abortive "scandals" from the last couple of years. For example, when President Obama announced that the United States and European countries were joining the Libyan rebels in attacking Khaddafi, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Right over the way he made the announcement: "He didn't abort his South American trip!"  "He didn't address the nation from the Oval Office!"

They just throw the shit on the wall, and see what sticks.

Let us all have the strength to see the humanity in our enemies, and the courage to let them see the humanity in ourselves.
