      He was elected in 2010, when Republicans managed to swipe the House because Dem turnout was rather low.

        or adequately pleased by the progress made... so they stayed home to increase the hostility and hopefully accomplish the revolution.

          ...Democratic voters didn't turn out "to increase the hostility and accomplish the revolution", then I have a bridge to sell you.

          Mid-term elections in general have never garnered many people getting to the polls from the Dem side.  A lot of it is because we don't mandate people vote in every election.  The rest of it is basic ignorance.  Hopefully, people will learn from the shitty people that were elected in 2010, and elections DO matter and DO have consequences, and if they don't want said shitty people in office, then they need to vote to keep them out.  But it's something that needs to constantly be drilled into people's heads, and I doubt the traditional media will be the ones to do it.
