    i had that conversation with my mother many years ago. She had had me, then my sister 13 months later--and then found herself pregnant again just 4 months later. Married, but living on the edge financially and stretched way too thin as it was, she had an abortion in 1954. Her doctor helped her find someone to perform the operation.

    She told me her story back when it looked like abortion rights were finally secured for American women. She told me she never regretted it.

    This is the untold story of so many women who are now in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. And the story, with a less happy ending, of so many women who didn't survive the illegal, unregulated procedure.  So much more common than most people realize.
