  •  I think I will offer a story from another place (15+ / 0-)

I don't know that this helps.  But I feel like this is a story that more people need to know about and understand, particularly in the light of Romney saying at the debate that he wants more NAFTA agreements south of the US border.

Romney is one of a whole herd of people who have been making millions from offshoring jobs and moving manufacturing to places that specifically allow low wage labor and that have no worker protections against workplace injury.

The crass ruthlessness that allows investors to profit by taking money out of the pockets of workers is really a scary thing.  We all owe it to ourselves to become more aware of this whole nasty business.

What we can do about it isn't clear.  We now apparently need an international labor movement that has the strength to force these people into agreements.  In American, what put these into place has been the hard work and hard fought battles and sacrifice of many people over many years.  If you read Upton Sinclair, you read about conditions that inspired the modern labor movement a hundred years ago.  That Sinclair could write about what he observed was in turn made possible by what Charles Dickens wrote a half century before that.

It would seem that, if Romney is elected, he will actually turn back the clock a bit, back towards those times.  We really have to be determined to go against the grain of our society's selfish fixation on consumerism and pleasure seeking and deal with this "New World Order."

Check this story out and please share it with anyone who might be inspired to put more effort into sharing the needed public education about the entire international labor situation and the deterioration of the middle class that is really a result.  This is happening because American investors are moving against America.  It is the utter lack of morality and greed on Wall Street.

I hope that you guys get some kind of support and help in your crisis up there and I am very sorry to hear that this is going on and that Romney is doing as well as he is in the polls despite this.   I hope he doesn't get elected.  I know that this sort of comment might not help in the short run, but maybe there is a way we could begin to turn things around.  I hope so.

    Check this out:

I have heard it said that the larger question is whether we can bring standards and wages up for everyone- or our wages and standards will be brought down to the lowest common denominator.  This may ultimately, be the right way to characterize the long term struggle we are in.

Don't let up in your fight to become heard.  Be as noisy as you can possibly be.  Thank you for standing up.

hope that the idiots who have no constructive and creative solutions but only look to tear down will not win the day.
