      •  It's all about timing (2+ / 0-)

If President Obama and the Democrats tried to raise the issue of the 400 million cut they would be buried by a tidal wave of diversion in the press.   The media would have ample time to make the issue seem irrelevant.  And they would have plenty of opportunity to diffuse the issue and spin it.

Wait for the debate, when all the lights are on and the hype reaches its apex.

Then SLAM - America is going to hear about this.

Just wait until President Obama has his microphone and can talk over the media.  But they all need to be following his every move before he unleashes this - thus the debate makes the perfect platform.

The Libya situation is playing very differently in the MSM.

Yes, Romney keeps shooting himself in the foot about it.  But Obama, Hillary et al have not clearly explained the situation in a way to refute the clearly partisan and exploitative GOP attacks.

In the MSM, however, things are still playing as if there has been a kind of "coverup" or at least incompetence.  Last night I was visiting an elderly friend in a physical therapy rehab facility.  His roommate had the TV on and we ended up by default watching ABC News' report on Ambassador Steven's repeated pleas to increase security at both Tripoli and Benghazi.  (Or at least that's how it played in last night's report - I was under the impression that in reality, he was only pleaing for increased security at Tripoli.)

The report was long and "apparently" in depth.  We saw emails, papers, and heard an interview with a colleague of Stevens who described him at "fist-clenching" frustrated with the State Dept. for not answering his pleas.

Both my friend and his roommate - from the Greatest Generation, God Bless 'em - are extremely liberal in philosophy.  His roommate was Indian and loves Obama.  My friend - at 94, and as mentally quick as any 25 year old - is an intellectual who remembers well what America was like before the social contract.  Both men are quite concerned with the coming election - even though neither knows whether or not he will live to see the end of the next President's term.

When this report came on, our cheery visit came to a standstill. You could hear a pin drop.  "This is bad," said my friend's roommate.

NO mention of Republicans blocking funding for Embassy Security in the report....which the MSM and others need to do, so Obama doesn't come across as blaming.  But strong, strong implication that these documents had been suppressed and that State had knowingly put our embassies in harm's way.

      ABC News, not FOX.

My frustration with Obama is I just don't see him as a clear explainer-in-chief right now.  Bill Clinton actually changed some very conservative minds temporarily in his meticulous explanation of the current economy during the convention.  Obama needs to do more of that.  In this situation in particular.   Granted, the investigation is still ongoing, and he can't release classified material.  But he needs to appeal to the simple minds that watch (and produce!) reports like this ABC news "breaking story" and set the situation in the proper context.
