  •  Not a fundamentalist, not Assemblies of God (11+ / 0-)

As others have noted, Phil Snider is neither a fundamentalist nor an Assemblies of God pastor. He is, however, correct about this issue. We make a mistake when we are surprised that Christians could actually be in favor of LGBT rights. Heck, many Christians are L, G, B, or T. There are lots of churches with pastors like Phil Snider that DK folks would find welcoming and challenging and great bases to make a difference in the community and the world. So, rather than going against "brand" in making this statement, I think Snider made a good step toward putting forward an alternative Christian position. As eiziax said about, this may include "after God" theology. A good book that explores the alternatives and lays out a vision for a church based on how we include and what we do rather than what we believe is "Christianity after Religion: The End of Church and the Birth of a New Spiritual Awakening" by Diana Butler Bass.
