  •  Gallup has vested interests that trump reputation (1+ / 0-)

"Why does Gallup get cited as if it's reliable, when it isn't?"
is a very good question. And more and more of us ought to be questioning their increasingly undeserved credibility.

Gallup may well be willing to sacrifice some reputation to achieve other goals. Even better for them, if they can achieve those other goals while not getting noticed and not getting caught and not losing repute, then even better for them.

Remember, polling is not how they make most of their money. But it is how they most widely promote their brand.

Say that Gallup has been getting a free ride on-over charging the federal government (us, the taxpayers) for decades. Now say a whistle blower triggers investigation by Obama Administration, which cracks down on Gallup's cash cow. Hell yeh, Gallup has a strong incentive to see Obama lose, to take heat off its tail.

No "conspiracy theory" needed here. Just plain old corruption and self interest, pure and simple.

    •  Gallup is OLD. It's been around forever. It is (0+ / 0-)

SYNONYMOUS with "reputable poll" in the minds of many...and particularly among the older pols who run the show in the Village.

Gallup is coasting on reputation. It's not a conspiracy, it's just a quality drop not yet reflected in brand reputation.

      •  Old cronies can and do go corrupt... (0+ / 0-)

.. and coasting on reputation is what gives them cover while they justify to themselves increasingly corrupt practices to defend their slowly dwindling cash cows and other vested interests
