    think of themselves as Christians and worrying about what Christians should do, and consider instead thinking of themselves as human individuals, citizens and rational beings, and deciding individually, as rational human individuals, what they should do.

      Just askin'.

      •  I always parse this stuff by substituting (0+ / 0-)

        a group that is a collection instead of an identity, like bowlers or bicyclists.  Except for stuff about equipment, technique and possibly clothing, you don't see an abundance of articles  concerned with "should bowlers do x?", "How should bicyclists vies y", etc., yet they remain, nonetheless, bowlers and bicyclists.

        OTOH, one seldom sees bowlers standing around discussing or declaiming on who is and isn't a real bowler, so maybe you aer on to something.
