  •  The Likely Romney Response (2+ / 0-)

I predict that Romney/GOP/FOX/Rush will accuse Obama of "playing politics" with the Iranian situation.

    •  Of course. It's as hollow as it sounds. (1+ / 0-)

    •  Either that... (0+ / 0-)

or some version of "This only proves that even Iran thinks that Romney is going to win. They know a man worthy of fear and respect is going to be in the White House and they are scared. Obama could not achieve it in four years...this is Mitt Romney's doing!!"

      •  Isn't it snarkily wonderful how much Mitt can do (0+ / 0-)

as President without in fact being President, and how little Obama can do as President while being President.

The question I have on this one is who is it that is busily leaking these bilateral talks, at the same time that Obama's policy heretofore has been multilateral joint efforts rather than bilateral whoop de do? I wonder if this leaker is trying to foul up whatever O's next step was, by making this announcement via an anonymous face that NYT accepts, conveniently before the debate, to mess up O, with the same level of carelessness that Darryl Issa is doing. We already know that shortly after the election, the Palestinian app to the UN for nonmember status is coming up for a vote and the available sources say it will win. We also know Bibi has called a snap election for January, and Bibi has a huge amount of his own cred wrapped up in attacking Iran, or at least controlling the situation.

    •  But would any of that matter? (0+ / 0-)

If Obama can successfully dial down Mid East tensions by talking peace with Iran, thereby avoiding an horrific conflagration, wouldn't both sides applaud him?
