on first blush, you might think saving the auto industry and the millions of jobs it directly and indirectly supports would be a slam-dunk win for Team Obama. But, unbelievable as it may seem, there is a lot of resentment towards union auto workers. Unionized workers of any kind, really. Not just from management types either. A lot of working class people have been poisoned against unions by a very effective long term strategy to divide blue collar workers against each other. I saw a lot of it last year during the campaign to repeal SB5. People are so beat up that they resent other workers who have good jobs with good benefits. It's a variation of "Why should they have something I don't?" or more pointedly, "Nobody saved my job, so FU."

I guess they find it easier to demonize union workers, rather than channel that energy into organizing for themselves so they CAN have that.

Reforms come from below. No man with four aces howls for a new deal.

with the number of people in auto-related businesses, it's not just union workers who would have lost their jobs but a whole cascade of people working for non-unionized small businesses and suppliers.
