  •  While not being a war lover I recognize the need (3+ / 0-)

to be able to fight back with as little damage as possible to end bad situations and bad actors on the world stage. My husband and I both joined up during the Vietnam war> I was a war protestor and joined because I wanted to have some part in ending it. I wanted it over so badly and yet it seemed to drag on forever with thousands dying  yearly. Some of them were high school friends who took thier own lives when they got home, One friend , shot down 4 times I saw briefly one time before he took his own life. I appreciate PBO s handling of these wars he did not start but has a responsibility to end in such a way that does not guarantee future conflicts.

What is concerning to me is the number of people who have been forced to serve multiple tours in both countries... And if the republicans continue in control of congress they talk of cutting the VA which is a freaking promise to those who put thier life on the line for the leaders who got us into these freaking wars... They want to increase the defense budget to enrich the MIC but they want to cut what the serving soldiers were promised and earned. TO me that is the height of indecency and true failure of patriotism that they so eagerly claim because they love war so much they are always looking to engage in another one to make a buck but like other CEOs they want to short the people who spend thier energy and time producing what they profit off of.

I opposed both of these wars and thought that we should use the same kind of warfare against them (but not on civilian populations). Not as much money to be made there supplying crap for the soldiers but building big weapons. When the battle leads to more deaths and injury then 911 we became insane fools wasting our national wealth and  more lives (not just here but in other countries - how dare we claim that 911 was evil when we have cost those countries thousands of lives more , many of whom are not terrorists - Do we think they will forget or do we plan to kill them all in some Byzantium ideal). Actually spending just a fraction of the national wealth helping to lift more people out of abject poverty would be more cost efficient and more likely to lead to better resolutions of conflicts. Ok it is near midnight and now I am riled up.

    Good diary Mr Brin

How can you tell when Rmoney is lying? His lips are moving. Fear is the Mind Killer

You got everything that matters. E.g.:

Not as much money to be made there supplying crap for the soldiers but building big weapons. When the battle leads to more deaths and injury then 911 we became insane fools wasting our national wealth and  more lives (not just here but in other countries - how dare we claim that 911 was evil when we have cost those countries thousands of lives more , many of whom are not terrorists - Do we think they will forget or do we plan to kill them all in some Byzantium ideal).
We's gonna do a Toby Keith on them. With both boots simultaneously.

War became a video game. Crazy-bad strategies, no testing for tactics. A new name for screwing up every six months.

Afghanistan is a tracking war. Basically the same as tracking Apaches and Comanches in the Southwest, plus automatic weapons and mines. But the Pentagon brass never, ever figured that out. Never gamed the action realistically. They also labelled their opponents "Taliban" where the most of those folks are cheap-mercs paid by drug operations to create havoc and make space for the poppy fields.

      Follow the money.

Thankfully we've got Black Eisenhower in there for now. Limits the bleed.
