horses into the Afghan mountains, or mules?

In the late '80s, the Reagan administration (remember them? Cheney and Rumsfeld and that crowd?) were supplying the Afghani "freedom fighters" with mules to transport armaments through the mountains where there are no roads.

The "freedom fighters" (for those who weren't following this stuff back when), who were our proxy army against the Soviets, are the ones we're fighting now.

    sigh

Maybe we need armored knights riding on mules armed with cavalry sabers to defend ourselves from the terrorists.  They will die from laughter before the can unleash the rockets from their hand-held launchers!

      •  that's why mules (1+ / 0-)

were sent into those mountains in the 1980s. Very sure-footed, far more so on difficult terrain than horses.
