We have no active battleships: they are obsolete.

Another thing:  a single Ohio-class sub fully loaded with nuclear-tipped missiles would qualify as the third most destructive world military power.  And we have like 48 of them?  I saw a reference last night to this, but afraid I can't recall it at the moment.  One of those nuclear payloads is equal to all the munitions we expended in WWII.  Damn scary.

Real plastic here; none of that new synthetic stuff made from chicken feathers. By the morning of 9/12/2001 the people of NYC had won the War on Terror.

    •  Right, but a carrier is a LOT more flexible (2+ / 0-)

than a battleship.  A battleship is a one trick pony, everything about it is designed to fire large projectiles at big targets up to 20 miles away.  Everything is designed to support, protect and feed the big guns.  After Pearl Harbor, there was a lot of scrambling to change the secondary batteries of the battleships from anti shipping to anti aircraft purposes.  The battleship had become obsolete.
