We just joined CoCoRaHS for another way to participate in citizen science.
Here's the description on the WA state part of the national website:

The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network or CoCoRaHS is a non-profit community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and report precipitation rain, hail, and snow.
It's silly, but there's a regional competition going to get new participants - there's a couple of days left to sign up:
The 1st Annual WA vs. OR CoCoRaHS Challenge has started! WA and OR will be competing to see who can get the most new CoCoRaHS observers from Oct 1 through Oct 27 (when the Huskies play the Beavers in college football!).
I took our first reading this morning - .04 in.

It would be fun to compare rainfall with other WA state Daily Bucketeers.  There are big differences between Seattle, the San Juans, and the NE corner of the Olympic Peninsula.
