  •  Anyone: cld explain the HC/BO 08 cand. math? (0+ / 0-)

My family continues to argue in  the friendliest ways that
    1. had HRC had MI and FL, she would have had the candidate count and the candidacy,
    to the contrary,
    2. that Sen BO has secured the necessary candidates without the contested states, even when he was loosing primaries, because of math of big states like CA, TX.
Both sides claim Nate as their authority--but that's firewalled now and i can't access it without some work.

Neither side would ever accept politico as an authority

So can anyone give me a source other than mike allen.

Obama's Feruary 6 projections (on DKos)

The short answer is that delegates were being assigned proportionately.  Hilary's office thought they could make up their deficits by winning majorities in a few big states.  But majorities just got them a few more delegates than the other guys.  (Generally anyone with over about 15% of the vote got some delegates.)  Obama cleaned up in small caucus states.

After the Virginia returns in early February, it became obvious Hilary could not make up the difference and the whole thing became what can only be called "awkward".

The most interesting thing about the fiasco was the difference in their attitudes:

Obama said he thought there was a new alignment in the electorate which would allow him to win and that he was finding out if he was right.

Hillary said, "Oh, you can never let yourself think you might lose when you're in something like this."

And people wonder how Obama can keep his cool!

      •  Thanx. That's a start. one more thing wld help (0+ / 0-)

this begins to get the memory juices flowing. is there a one-stop shopping time line of the accumulating votes somewhere? Visual aides are my friend.

The funny thing is that Plouffe's "accidentally leaked" projections were just about exactly how it unfolded.  Way late, when it really didn't matter, one or two states were more than 1 or 2 delegates off.  It really was uncanny.
