  •  And the article talks like (18+ / 0-)

Facebook and so on are the death knell of blogs. Sure, social media is something to adapt to, but it also adds possibilities. Think of the open letter to the 53% guy that was FP'd here and went on to get whatever massive number of Facebook shares it did. That was blog + FB = someone gets a massive platform for at least that piece. Maybe different from the days of people with their own blogs breaking out and getting big audiences while still on those blogs, but wow.

    •  That's like saying planes = death knell of cars (7+ / 0-)

      because planes go faster.

(I'm sure someone somewhere once said that, or the other way around. But it was silly then too.)

      •  Mass-media vs Demassified-media (0+ / 0-)

Digital technology has been and will be the engine of our democratization of the media.

Digital technology enables decentralization and demassification.... and thus empowerment to the level that eventually anyone and everyone can hop in and drive their own communications vehicle.

Newsweek is on the wrong side of history (together with the 4 horsemen of old mass media TV, Radio, Magazines, Newspapers) -- the few speaking to (or at) the many.

dKos is on the right side of history
(together with bloggers, tweeters, social networkers, and myriad other web/net/software/digital innovators engaged in myriad innovations yet to be categorized) -- the many speaking with each other, and emergently, the voice of the many occasionally speaking as one to speak truth to power.

#3: ensure network neutrality; #2: ensure electoral integrity; #1: ensure ecosystemic sustainability.
