And, I'm not really giving him the benefit of the doubt as much as noting that it is different when a Congressman's idiot son has a conversation about doing something really fucking stupid which would end up swinging a race pretty much not at all; and when elected and appointed election officials actually do something not only stupid, but clearly damaging to the integrity of the votes of tens of thousands of people.

the scandal here isn't voter fraud...it's how incredibly stupid a campaign director who is the son of an elected official can be.

The entire Moran family should know better.

      •  Well, it might have been voter fraud. (1+ / 0-)

We will never know because no actual plan was carried out and executed in Moran's case - he might have been serious - he might not have been - but his case isn't the same as the evident election fraud that the diary was talking about.

For one thing, Moran doesn't need voter fraud to win.  Not here.  Not ever.  This is just a case of the son getting pwned by talking too much.

I live in Alexandria which is Moran's home territory.  That seat is Moran's, and not even a scandal would do much to change that.

He was sadly EXTREMELY stupid in what he said and how he said it.  He said that he was joking and that's entirely possible, but he also could have been serious.  He certainly didn't say exactly what you just said which is that there is ZERO reason for Moran to even consider cheating or to have any one cheat on his behalf.

"Thank you for your support and enthusiasm, but please don't do anything like that because it is illegal." would have been a much stronger and smarter answer on his part.

Instead he went into talking about OFA observers to help defend the person at the polls if they were questioned.  That's where the "joking" thing sort of starts to fall apart as a cover, but whatever.  I am glad he's gone, but he hasn't helped himself, the party or his Dad by being such an arrogant fool.

to this story: it is local news here, so repeated endlessly throughout the late night and early morning.

Yes, the guy was ridiculously stupid, just running his mouth.
Complacent, entitled, any number of descriptors come to mind.
