  •  No matter how you play with the (5+ / 0-)

semantics, no matter how you frame it, the U.S. was the aggressor in the Iraq war.  Period.

    •  Maybe it's a moot distinction (5+ / 0-)

but I don't consider the Bush regime to be "the US" - they were an Interregnum government that operated outside the Constitution.  Congress obeyed them, but they were a rubber-stamp parliament at that point - they acted like literal hostages, and that's pretty much how the situation looked from the outside.

      •  Well . . . the US is also the aggressor (0+ / 0-)

against Iran, and then there's the drone killings . . . and since it's happening now it's kind of hard to blame Bush.

Puts a kind of "bipartisan" face on CD, doesn't it . . .

        Fake Left, Drive Right . . . not my idea of a Democrat . . .

        •  Uh, no. (0+ / 0-)
the US is also the aggressor against Iran
The closest I would come to agreeing with that would be to say that US actions from 1954 to 1979 created the climate for anti-Americanism in Iran.  There are, however, no excuses for the actions of the Iranian theocracy since then.  We are not an "aggressor" for pursuing economic sanctions, and that's just a deranged claim.
and then there's the drone killings
What about them?  None of them have occurred in Iran or in any other region where sovereign governments that can be dealt with diplomatically are in practical control.
and since it's happening now it's kind of hard to blame Bush.
Then and now are night and day.  You have to live in an ideology-driven alternate universe to think there is some kind of equivalency to a fascist empire declaring war on all Mankind and an administration that ends wars and pursues diplomacy with vigor.
