What if EVERYONE was a knowledgeable thinker, with ability to analyze and discern what's evidence based strong "truth" and what's not? I don't see a disconnect between tradesmen and "intellectuals". In fact in my view, my plumber is one of the smartest people I know, and seems to have figured out how to live a happy life where his intellectual, physical and emotional life are interrelated and satisfied. He is far happier, and living at fuller human capacity, in my view, than maybe 90% of my colleagues at an academic institution of higher learning. If everyone had the skills and confidence to make evidence-based decisions and discern strong sources for their evidence, we wouldn't have such a terrible faux news problem! Maybe self-reliance and laughter (like Biden's at Ryan) would be a better equalizer than the agony and bluster of our current state.
